Zentangle® Arts-based Mindfulness Programs Offered in York Region
On two Wednesdays in August, Riverwalk Wellness Centres, an Aurora-based mental wellness nonprofit, offered Zentangle® courses in Keswick and Sutton. Zentangle is a mindfulness-based art method that involves mindful, repetitive pen strokes to create intricate patterns that from the outside look extremely complicated, but in reality are the result of only a few simple steps.
Zentangle is very easy to learn, and Riverwalk facilitator Susan Stortini’s instructional method breaks down the patterns into simple, manageable steps, while also teaching special art techniques to make the finished products look the best they can. The group is run in a very supportive environment and the one rule is that there are no mistakes.
Many people have found that Zentangle helps reduce anxiety and increase capacity for mindfulness. As the materials are very portable, you can take your Zentangle anywhere with you. The materials are also very affordable - all you need is quality paper, a quality pen, and a pencil with a nub to shade and smudge.
Riverwalk is offering two more Zentangle groups in York Region on October 5th and 29th. Riverwalk Wellness Centres has a vibrant Expressive and Therapeutic Arts program, and Zentangle is just one of the many programs that Riverwalk offers.
