
A principle precinct in the GTA
York Region, is a regional municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada. The region covers the area from Lake Simcoe in the north to the city of Toronto in the south. Its eastern border is shared with Durham Region, to the west is Peel Region, and Simcoe County is to the northwest. It stepped into the shoes of the former York County in 1971, and is part of the Greater Toronto Area and the inner ring of the Golden Horseshoe. York Region’s distinctiveness is visible in the nine local municipalities, geography, economic development and population. The region provides access to ample selection of services and resources. York Region is inland to many hectares of Greenbelt as well as the environmentally important Oak Ridges Moraine. The natural environment is sustained by planning and implementing various forests conservation and greening strategies.
