The Friendly City
Woodstock is located in Southwestern Ontario, at the head of the Thames River. The Dairy Capital of Canada and “The Friendly City” are two of Woodstock’s more well-known nicknames.
Woodstock plays host to a number of cultural and artistic exhibits, including the Woodstock Museum, a national historic site. Woodstock's summer festivals contribute to its tourism industry. Woodstock is also home to a satellite campus of London’s Fanshawe College.
Woodstock’s west end has exceptionally well-preserved Victorian streetscapes. Every summer the main street is shut down for the city's “Summer Streetfest” celebrations, an event featuring a mix of retail sales and various entertainment attractions.
As a small historic city, Woodstock is one of the few cities in Ontario to still have all of its original administration buildings. Woodstock is also a market city for the surrounding agricultural industry.
