“The material of ‘Into the Woods’ is potent stuff – as old as time, or at least as old as fairy tales… Mr. Sondheim’s lyrics and Mr. Lapine’s book tap into the psychological mother lode from which so much of life and literature spring… the conception is brilliant.” – The New York Times.

Leamington's The Bank Theatre, Cardinal Music Productions and Korda Artistic Productions present Sondheim's Tony Award winning musical masterpiece INTO THE WOODS this coming month.

The show runs for four performances only – March 2, 3 & 4 at 7:30PM, and March 5 at 2:00PM at The Bank Theatre & Meeting Place, 10 Erie Street South, Leamington, Ontario. Tickets are $20, and are available through www.banktheatre.com, at partner outlets for the Bank Theatre, and online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2736726.

The recent Windsor performances of the production at The KordaZone Theatre were sold out most show nights, so purchasing tickets in advance for the Leamington engagement is a good idea. To see photos from the Windsor run, visit: https://www.flickr.com/photos/127347470@N04/sets/72157676363826822.

The fractured fairy tale adventure, with Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and Book by James Lapine, invites audiences into the epic and entertaining world of The Brothers Grimm for a new fairy tale about wishes, family, and the choices we make. When a Witch takes a childless Baker and his Wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse she placed on their family tree, the two set off on an unforgettable journey ‘into the woods’. They are joined by Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival to meet her Prince; Little Red Ridinghood, off to bring some treats to her poor old granny; and Jack, who is on a mother-motivated mission to sell his beloved cow. Deep in the woods, wishes are granted, curses are reversed, and the heroes of our story learn to be careful what you wish for.
During its Broadway run, the original show won the Tony Award for Best Score and Best Book; and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. A 2002 Revival took home the Tony Ward for Best Revival, and in 2011, the show scored the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Revival. The tale was made into a critically acclaimed Disney Film in 2014, starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp.
