Becky Cudmore is a senior science advisor on aquatic invasive species, science policy and management. She is also a manager of the Asian carp program at the Centre of Expertise for Aquatic Risk Assessment for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. An invasive species detective, Cudmore will be speaking at the November 1st lecture hosted by Durham Lifelong Learning, a not-for-profit in Durham dedicated to promoting lifelong learning. Cudmore will focus her presentation on Asian carp, which are threatening the Great Lakes. Native to China, the fish were introduced to the U.S. in the 1970s to tackle aquatic weeds and have since infiltrated waterways in the midwest U.S. and have been spotted in some Ontario waters. If they make it to the Great Lakes, commercial and recreational fishing could be decimated and ecosystems devastated. Find out more about this event at:
