The town of Whitby steadily grew throughout the 1900's and in these early years, much of its commerce was based around its habour and the grain trade. Whitby had the second busiest harbour in Lake Ontario, second only to that of Toronto's. This busy harbour brought many new residents to Whitby and in 1968, the Town of Whitby and the Township of Whitby amalgamated to form the municipality of Whitby. The grain trade has long since left Whitby however, Whitby still remains a very vibrant community centered around its gorgeous marina, its busy yacht club as well as its many other waterfront recreational facilities.
