Christmas Joy! Healey Willan Singers 10th Anniversary Christmas Concert
On Sunday, November 27, the Healey Willan Singers began their 10th anniversary season with a concert to kick off the Christmas season. The afternoon concert began with the choir singing at the back of the sanctuary, which led into the first of four audience carols, with the choir processing into the front of the church for the remainder of the concert. The main work on the program was John Rutter’s Dancing Day, a choral suite of carols that featured guest harpist, Karen Koh. But, before the main piece, the choir sang a set of contemporary choral works that invokes the season from the arctic cold to the dark midnight in December. Both organist and guest harpist performed solo works as a palette cleanser between the sets of choral works, and the afternoon ended with a set of Christmas works written by Canadian women composers. The capacity crowd enjoyed an amazing concert from a very talented group of musicians - no better way to begin the season of Advent! The Singers next concert will be on the evening of Saturday, April 22, 2017. It’s a long wait...in the meantime, you can catch the choir’s music director's other ensemble “Voices Chamber Choir” for their 21st annual Christmas concert on Saturday, December 10 at 8 p.m. Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, 151 Glenlake Avenue. Tickets available at the door. For more information, visit their website at www.voiceschoir.com. The Healey Willan Singers' website is www.healeywillansingers.com
