Stone Soup Benefit Delivers for Sexual Assault Support Centre

Posted on Feb 21, 2017 by Alan Quarry

When everyone brings something to the table, we can truly make a difference. Stone Soup 3 brought together the community and led a most successful fundraiser for the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, raising over $12,000.

Waterloo Region residents came together on February 4 to "Party for Good."

This was thanks to the 500-plus people who came on February 4 to “Party for Good” and show their support for the SASCWR. The community bid generously on the dozens of silent auction items, purchased artwork by local artists and provided cash donations.

Alysha Brilla was a showstopper and got the crowd up and dancing.

“We knew Waterloo Region was generous and this fundraiser proved it once again,” said Stone Soup co-founder Alan Quarry. “We were ecstatic by the crowd who not only came to party but gave what they could to this critical organization.”

In addition to five bands, there was an art show and silent auction.

The event included five music acts with multi-time Juno nominee Alysha Brilla and Jon Knight and Soulstack headlining the show in downtown Kitchener. Visual artists from around the region and students from Eastwood Collegiate’s Integrated Arts Program showcased their artwork and donated a portion of sales to the cause.

Alan Quarry and business partner Glen Drummond founded Stone Soup in 2015. The first event benefited Doctors Without Borders and their fight against the Ebola crisis. In 2016, Nutrition For Learning and the Immigration Partnership Fund for Syrian Newcomers were dual benefactors.

Quarry said it was an easy decision to choose the Sexual Assault Support Centre after a year of negative stories of misogyny, sexual violence and disrespect in today’s culture.

Stone Soup 3 would not have been possible without the support of gold level sponsors including RBC, BDO Canada, Rae Lipskie Partnership, Goliger’s Travel Plus, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and BarnRaising Associates.
