
The city of Stratford
Although Stratford is politically independent of Perth County, it is the seat of County. It is located on the Avon River.
Each year swans are released into the Avon River and that is why the swan has become a symbol of the city.
The city is well known for being the home of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, which is an internationally recognized annual repertory theatre festival running from April to October.
The Stratford Concert Band, a local wind ensemble, formed in 1907 by James Malone, marked their 100th anniversary performing in Stratford.
Stratford maintains manufacturing, tourism, commercial, financial and service industries. One of the top sectors of the economy is tourism.
