North Simcoe Air Guitar Champion is Crowned
North Simcoe Air Guitar Champion is Crowned - Bryan 'Dr. Rockstar Genius' Piitz To Compete at Nationals in Toronto on July 16th
It's official, Bryan Piitz aka Dr. Rockstar Genius is moving on to represent Simcoe County on July 16th at the 2016 Air Guitar Canada National Championships. If he takes the crown in Toronto he will be off to represent CANADA in Oulu, FINLAND at the 21st annual Air Guitar World Championships!!
For the past 20 years in Oulu, Finland (the northern capital), Air Guitarists from around the world meet to compete in the AIR GUITAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (AGWC). They create 1-minute performances that defy reality and melt the crowd’s faces. These air guitar heroes are judged using the figure skating scoring system of 4.0 to 6.0 for originality, stage charisma, technical merit, ability to be taken over by the music, artistic impression, and of course, ‘airness’.
Air Guitar is all about promoting world peace. The mantra: ‘When you’re holding an Air Guitar, you can’t be holding a gun’. Air Guitar Canada has a charitable mandate. As a not for profit organization it donates the net proceeds of the events to Right To Play Canada - Helping children facing adversity due to war, famine, and poverty worldwide through sport and play programs.
Saturday night’s lineup of 8 performers included air guitar rockstars from Penetanguishene, Midland and Toronto. The energy in the room was electric and supportive and 3 more performers stepped up for the Brave Soul challenge including the Maple Valley Sports Bar bartender. The brave judges who had the difficult job of deciding amongst the 11 performers were: Deputy Mayor Mike Ross, Butter Tart and Zucchini queen Barb Rowlandson, Heart of Georgian Bay’s Brittany Black and The Schomberg Fair’s Pete Garthside. The night was hosted by Midland’s Ward Two Councillor Cody Oschefski who also joined in the North Simcoe Vs Toronto Karaoke Air Band Battle, aiding North Simcoe take the win! Huge thank you to all who participated and came out to support. It was an incredible night!
