19th Annual Riverdale ArtWalk
Wow, what a great weekend for the Toronto art community! On the first weekend of every June, the Artists’ Network puts on the 2017 Riverdale ArtWalk, featuring the work of fine artists from across Canada. This is the season opener for summer art shows, and this year was the 19th year for this juried show. Held in Jimmie Simpson Park on Queen Street East, this much-anticipated show pulls in art lovers from all over the GTA. The show receives much support from the local businesses, who often feature individual artists in their shop windows in the two weeks leading up to the show weekend. The Riverside BIA always supports the artists’ efforts by holding its Riverside Eats and Beats food and music streetfest in conjunction with this show. Between great art, great food and great music, it’s a fantastic weekend for all.
It’s been a tough spring in the weather department for many, so weather-watching was the order of the day for an outdoor show. Saturday was a picture-perfect day, and while Sunday started off a little soggy, even Mother Nature couldn’t stand up to the combined energies of 160+ artists beaming their happy thoughts out to the skies. Sunday turned into another beautiful day, and the Toronto art-loving community continued to show their support for both days by purchasing local Canadian art.
The Artists’ Network is an organization dedicated to teaching artists how to be better business people. Throughout the year, the organization has smaller pop-up shows, giving artists multiple opportunities to practice the business skills we teach them with free-to-members seminars that happen monthly. The Artists’ Network’s next show will be its ArtWalk in the Square show at the CF Shops of Don Mills, August 18-20, 2017. This will be the second year in that location, and many of the artists from the Riverdale show book their summer activities to ensure they can exhibit at that show, as well.
