Cottage Country
Peterborough County can be roughly separated into two areas. First, there is a northern section of the county that is primarily used for seasonal recreational activities, due to the many rivers and lakes in the area, as well as large forested areas. Many of these wilderness attractions can be found in one of Peterborough County’s biggest tourist attractions, Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park
The other area of the county is the southern section, which contains mainly agricultural land and several small urban communities and lakefront properties.
Other attractions in Peterborough County are Lang Pioneer Village, and the Kawarthas, which is a very popular destination for tourists.
The city of Peterborough is within Peterborough County, but is separated from the county’s administration. There are also two First Nations reserves in Peterborough County – Curve Lake First Nation 35 and Hiawartha First Nation – which are independent of county administration.
