Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton and Kennedy's Major Appliances held the 2017 Wing Fest on January 21, 2017.
Almost 250 people attended to taste the wings from 10 different restaurant, plus salads from Fresh Fuell and veggies from The Olympia. The restaurants that were involved this year included Wimpy's Diner, Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters, St. Dave's Diner, The Grand, The Moose Lodge, Symposium Cafe, Boston Pizza, Kelsey's, That Place on Cameron and Sugar & Spice Catering.
BOB FM's Julie Corlett was the evening's M/C, as well as judging blindly with Zack Kennedy (sponsor) and Rawn Moore (big sister of the year).
Julie selected Mary Brown's, Zack selected Kelsey's and Rawn selected Sugar & Spice. The People's Choice Award voted on by all those that attended was awarded to Sugar & Spice Catering.
One luck person left the night with a 60" LG Smart TV courtesy of The Flat Panel Shoppe that was raffled off.
The evening also featured a small silent auction with items from Air Miles, Jennifer Bell-Harvey and Classy Canes.
The real winners were all the children who benefit from being involved with mentoring programs.
The night was finished off with a dance to the sounds of Westerby Entertainment.
We want to thank all those that help us plan, organize and promote this event to the community. Over $16,000 was raised to support the programs offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton.
Wing Fest 2018 is scheduled for January 20, 2018 in case you missed out this year. Please call 705-324-6800 or visit www.bigbrothersbigsisters.info for more information on the organization and its fundraising events.
