Dundas Valley Orchestra Folk Inspirations Concert May 29, 2016
The Dundas Valley Orchestra held their Folk Inspirations Concert yesterday at St.Paul's United Church in Dundas. In spite of the hot day we had a full house with lots of fans to keep everyone from melting.
We had Two tests join the Orchestra. Our 2016 Young Composer award winner Yuang Chen came to listen to the premier performance of his "Le percolate de valse" (the waltzing piglet). It was well received and fun to play.
Our second guest was Lindsey Rynders, oboist who is the 2016 HAAALSA Young Musician award winner. She performed "Orientale" by Cesar Cui with the orchestra accompanying her.
Other music performed was Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, Variations on a Shaker Melody by Aaron Copelan, Canadian Folk Song Suite by John Palmer (a Canadian composer).
Our second half of the performance started with "Shenandoah" and arrangement for Brass done by Leen Tuk a member of our Brass Section. We concluded with The New World Symphony by Antonin Dvorak. A receptions was was held in the basement after the concert.
