PEACE FEST 2016
ALPHA Education held its second annual PEACE FEST on August 12, 2016, from 12PM to 9PM, at Mel Lastman Square in North York. As a community building and educational initiative, PEACE FEST is meant to be a safe and open environment for more community members to be aware of the forgotten history of WWII in Asia, and the need for peaceful ways of reconciliation between affected nations. Peace Fest also celebrates the steps individuals are already taking to build a more peaceful and harmonious society.
At this unique festival, community members were invited to celebrate the pursuit for reconciliation and sustain their hopeful spirit for peace through various family-friendly outdoor activities and events.
There were fifteen talented groups that spiced up the festival with delightful performances throughout the entire day, along with a games booth and a water walking activity feature from What A Ball for people to enjoy. Several arts and crafts vendors as well as six different food trucks joined us on premises to celebrate PEACE FEST. In addition, there was an origami-folding booth dedicated to teaching attendees how to fold various symbols of peace. At the end of the festival, people were invited to join our peace boat ceremony by floating their electronically lighted peace boats on the pond.
With more improvements and features to come, ALPHA hopes to see a steady increase in community participation at each annual PEACE FEST in the future.
