Tourism has long been the main industry in the Niagara Falls Region and it has played a vital role in this areas booming economy since the early 1900s. Once Niagara Falls was declared a Natural Wonder in the early 19th century, the world seemed to look upon this region of Canada with a whole new light and intensity. Niagara Falls was also featured in many painting by various famous painters of the time and with the prolific distribution of the image of Niagara Falls throughout the world, Niagara Falls became even more glamorous and famous. Niagara Falls continued to grow and grow with each passing year and from the 1950s through to the 1980s, there was seemingly either an opening of a new tourist attraction or a death-defying stunt over the falls every year. It has also been declared the "honeymoon capital of the world" which surely has only added to its appeal.
