Newmarket Folk Society presents Paul Mills, Grit Laskin and Bill Garrett (with Sue Lothrop)

This concert will feature three of Canada’s best known folk musicians in concert “Workshop Style”. That is, all on stage at the same time, taking turns performing and backing each other up vocally and instrumentally. These three performers have graced pretty-well all of Canada’s folk festivals and clubs over the years. There is so much to be written about each of them, here are a few tidbits.
Paul Mills Well known as CBC producer of “Touch the Earth”, Paul became even better known as a record producer, session guitarist and accompanist as well as a founder of Borealis Records. Most notably, Paul produced most of Stan Rogers’ recordings and performed as Curly Boy Stubs on many of them. Paul is also a superb solo performer with a rich repertoire of his and others’ songs to bring to the Newmarket Stage. .
Grit Laskin A founder of Borealis Records, Canada’s top Folk music recording and distribution company. As well, he is, perhaps, Canada’s leading guitar luthier. Grit started out performing as a founding member of “Friends of Fiddlers Green” and still performs with that group today! He was one of Stan Roger’s band for the recording of Stan’s “Live “ album. His sense of humour, large repertoire and great stage presence put him in demand with folk festivals and folk clubs.
Bill Garrett, (with Sue Lothrop) Another founder of Borealis Records, Bill Garrett is one of the best guitar players in the Canadian folk music world and has performed with Paul Mills and more often with musical and life-partner Sue Lothrop. Bill was also a CBC producer and independent record producer and has produced over 75 records over the years. Sue Lothrop has performed with Bill for many years and their great on-stage duo presence is as a result of their great harmonies and chemistry.

It is very rare for these performers to be on stage together and we are honoured that they have agreed to this special performance here in Newmarket.
