A consumer information fair highlight green, natural and family centered funeral, burial and end of life care options. If you have ever wanted to find out how you could arrange to have a green or natural burial, or care for a dying loved one at home, or even just make any experience you have with death less frightening or cold, come to the Expo. The Green Burial Society will be there to explain what “green” and “natural” mean when it comes to burial and funeral practices. The Green Burial Society will describe the standards they have set in order to certify with them. You will learn how you can arrange for these types of funerals and burials as explained by the only funeral home currently specializing in green funerals and burial in Southern Ontario. If you are at the Expo, you’ll be the first to learn of some unique “green” local options right on the horizon. We will have Thanadoula (loosely translated as “death servant”) Barb Phillips presenting on home funerals – an old practice returning. Unitarian Lay Chaplain Debbi Callander will showcase person-centered memorials that honour and celebrate lives in unique ways. You’ll be treated to the beautiful choral group Singing Through Life – a threshold choir. They sing to people on the threshold between life and death – can you imagine how beautiful and comforting that might be? There will be a light lunch available to purchase and many exhibitors to visit during the break, followed by a series of workshops that will focus on the different aspects of end of life care.
