Immigrants from the British Isles were the first settlers of Halton Hills in the early 1800s. By the mid 1800s, Halton Hills had grown and several villages had been established here. The two largest of these villages were Georgetown and Acton, which in 1974, amalgamated with the Township of Esquesing, to form the Town of Halton Hills.

Today, Halton Hills remains a primarily rural area of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It is made up of a number of beautiful little hamlets and villages well worth a visit. Some of these little villages include Ashgrove, Ballinafad, Bannockburn, Crewsons Corners, Glen Williams, Norval, Scotch Block, Silver Creek, Terra Cotta, and Wildwood.
