Martin's Mill. The stone mill was built in 1856 and destroyed by fire in 1963.
Formerly know as Martin's Mill, Milton was renamed as Milton in 1836 when its first post office was opened. Over the next century, many farmers settled in Milton seeking to grow and prosper in the vast openness and fertility of this region. Although today Milton still largely remains a rural area of Halton, its main urban centers have seen much growth over the last decade.
The downtown heritage district of Milton has seen a surge in population growth as well as in the area east of downtown where many new home subdivisions have and still are being developed. Today, Milton is a very desirable place to live and it boasts one of the highest household incomes in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
