The East End started out as a small farming community that was a considerable distance from Toronto. In the early 1900’s however, the southern part of the East End started to grow as more and more people were attracted to the picturesque shores of Lake Ontario. The East End quickly became one of Toronto’s most popular travel destinations and several hotels as well as amusements parks opened here. At the same time, the northern part of the East End also started to grow however, it grew into an industrial center and it was home to the famous Grand Trunk Railway yards.

In 1908, the East End was annexed to the city of Toronto. With the closure of the Grand Truck Railway yard this same year, the East End started to change from the industrial center that it was into a commuter hub for those people working in Downtown Toronto. The East End has continued to grow and expand over the last century and now, it is a bustling and diverse area of the City of Toronto.
