LOCOMOTIVES, BUTTERFLIES AND PUPPETS

Stay warm this December as the KSO presents a concert of strikingly programmatic music filled with machinery, fantasy and folklore. “Locomotives vibrate in harmony” with Honegger’s mechanically modernistic mouvement symphonique: Pacific 231. Jing Ye narrates with her violin the Chinese “Romeo and Juliet” folk tale, The Butterfly Lovers - a story of broken hearts, beautifully set to music that merges eastern melodies with western instruments. A mischievous puppet comes to life in Stravinsky’s descriptive, imaginative and exhilarating score to the ballet Petrushka.
