The Limestone City

Kingston is located on the eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal). The city is located midway between Toronto and Montreal. The Thousand Islands tourist region is nearby to the east.
Kingston is nicknamed the “Limestone City” because of the many heritage buildings constructed using local limestone.
Kingston's economy relies heavily on public sector institutions and establishments. The most important sectors are related to health care, education, government, tourism and culture.
Queen's University is one of Canada's oldest universities and offers a variety of degree programs. The university was founded in 1841 under royal charter from Queen Victoria.
There is also a rich cultural history in Kingston, as the city hosts several festivals during the year, including the Kingston WritersFest, Limestone City Blues Festival, the Kingston Canadian Film Festival, Kingston Jazz Festival, and many others.
