PortsToronto’s Sail-In Cinema™ Brings Thousands to Toronto’s Waterfront
Toronto (August 19, 2016) – Opening night of PortsToronto’s sixth annual Sail-in Cinema brought more than 2,400 people to Sugar Beach – by land and boat – for the festival’s screening of Hook. Even larger audiences are expected to attend the free, three-day event for the Friday, August 19, screening of Jumanji and Saturday, August 20, screening of The Princess Bride, which will be shown on a four-story, two-sided, floating screen anchored to a barge in Lake Ontario.
“PortsToronto conceived of Sail-in Cinema six years ago as a means of encouraging people to come to Sugar Beach and enjoy the sights and sounds of the waterfront,” said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. “We were thrilled to have so many people join us for the opening night of Sail-in Cinema and look forward to welcoming more people tonight and Saturday. From new cinema-quality HD projectors that provide a dynamic and stunning film experience to spectacular water displays put on by the Toronto Fire Boat to free treats and activities, Sail-In Cinema is a fun event designed to welcome the community, celebrate the waterfront and cherish the last few warm nights of summer.”
While Sail-In Cinema is a free event, there is limited seating on the landside and entry is subject to the availability of space. Boat mooring will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Movie-goers will be eligible to enter a contest to win a pair of tickets aboard Porter Airlines to any destination the airline serves, and the first 500 attendees on-site each night will receive a specialBum Box for seating.
PortsToronto is pleased to have Toyota Canada back as Sail-In Cinema's Pre-Show Partner, offering film-goers many fun activities, including a virtual reality experience, face-painting and more. New and returning partners also include Redpath Sugar, Christie, CTV, Toronto Star, Kernels, Porter Airlines, aroma espresso bar, North American Logistics and The Waterfront BIA.
