The 25-year-old from Willemstad, Curacao is in his fourth season with the Cardinals earned 31 points in league voting, second overall for all outfielders, to be named to the all-star team. During the 2016 season Celestijn captured the league’s batting title with a .450 batting average and 16 extra base hits including four home runs. He would score 27 times and knock in 26 runs through the regular season.

The IBL also announced that Celestijn finished third in MVP voting behind Kitchener’s Tanner Nivins and Toronto’s Justin Marra.

Cardinals’ team president JP Molinaro stated “We are thrilled that Dre was voted to the first all-star team by the managers and general managers around the IBL. He is an amazing player and a great person to be around.” Molinaro went on to say, “Although he did not win the league’s MVP award, he is a valuable asset to our organization and we look forward to seeing what he will do next season.”
