
CARDINALS TAKE IT ON THE CHIN
Hamilton played their second home game of the season in IBL action on Friday night which saw the visiting London Majors defeat the Cardinals 13-1. Cleveland Brownlee would launch a three-run home run for London while TJ Baker scored Hamilton’s loan run on a solo shot. The Cardinals’ record would drop to 1-5 on the season with the loss while the Majors stay unbeaten at 9-0.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning thanks to some good pitching and great defense which included an unassisted double play by Chris Beer. London would get on the board first when Tristan Buntrock hit a single with the bases loaded to plate a pair of runs. The Majors would leave the inning with another run crossing the plate for a 3-0 lead.
Cleveland Brownlee extended the London lead with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth. The Majors would go on to score seven more runs before Baker hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth.
For Hamilton, Dan Weagle took the loss going five innings, allowing six runs on five hits, walking four batters, hitting two others and striking out four. Slater Frith would relieve Weagle and go an inning and two-thirds allowing five runs on two hits, walking four and striking out two. Nick Jambrosic would then enter the game and allow three consecutive walks before Chris Lazar took the mound to allow an unearned run on one hit and striking out two. Darek Bishop finished off the final inning and a third allowing two hits, a walk and striking out one.
For the Majors, Luis Sanchez picked up with win, going seven innings, allowing five this, walking two and striking out 12 batters. Braeden Ferrington pitched the final two innings allowing an earned run on one hit, a walk and striking out one.
Hamilton will head out onto the road for the remainder of the weekend to face the Barrie Baycats on Saturday night starting at 7:00 PM and then a rare Sunday road game in London against the Majors starting at 6:05 PM. The next home action for the Cardinals is on Tuesday June 13th when the Toronto Maple Leafs are in to make up a rain out from May. Game time on June 13th is 7:30 PM.
The Hamilton Cardinals and Buffalo Wild Wings are teaming up to raise funds for the Special Olympics Hamilton Softball team. At the Ancaster location of Buffalo Wild Wings at 1015 Golf Links Road between 6 and 8 PM on June 19th to eat wings and raise funds. Members of the Cardinals will be special guest servers and 10 percent of the bill will be donated to the Special Olympics Hamilton Softball team.
