CARDINALS RUN WILD OVER RED SOX
Approximately 24 hours after losing to the Red Sox by a score of 5-4 in Brantford the Cardinals rebounded to score ten times at Bernie Arbour on Sunday to defeat the same Red Sox 10-3. Dre Celestijn’s bat has been hot as of late, going three for four today and 16 hits in his seven games played. For Brantford, Ricky Murray had two of his team’s seven hits. With the win Hamilton moves half a game behind the Guelph Royals for sixth place.
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the second inning. TJ Baker, who drew a leadoff walk, came in to score on Jason deVos’ double which was followed by a walk to Dave Vanderby. Later in the inning Cal Murphy hit an infield single which saw Brantford’s third baseman Murray throw the ball away to allow two runs to cross the plate and give Hamilton a 3-0 lead.
Benjamin Bostick would get the Red Sox on the board in the fourth when he scored on a Nic Burdett sacrifice fly to centre. Brantford would make it a one run game in the fifth when Bostick singled to bring home Wayne Forman.
Hamilton took the lead for good in the sixth, scoring three times. Murphy and Celestijn each had RBI singles in the inning while Tyler Hardie picked up an RBI with a sac fly.
Murray would get one more run for the Red Sox when he scored on Lee Delfino’s sacrifice fly. However, Hamilton added four more runs in the eighth that all scored on six different wild pitches in the inning.
For the Cardinals, Robert Wilson picked up his first win of the season going five innings on the mound, allowing two runs, one of which was unearned, on three hits, walking two batters and striking out three. Russ Burroughs came in to relieve Wilson after he allowed a single to open the sixth inning. Burroughs would allow two hits and a walk over two innings. Chris Lazar then came in for an inning, allowing a run on two hits and striking out one. Benson Merritt pitched the ninth inning, getting all three batters he faced out.
