CARDINALS RE-SIGN MERRITT

Hamilton Cardinals’ general manager Dean Dicenzo announced today that the team has re-signed pitcher Benson Merritt for the 2017 Intercounty Baseball League season. Merritt, a native of Smithville, enters his sixth season with the Cardinals and his seventh in the IBL, appearing in 83 regular and postseason games.

During the 2016 season Merritt would pick up a record of 2-2 as a relief pitcher and was tied for third on the pitching staff with 18 strikeouts. Last season he pitched an IBL career high 38 innings in 19 appearances during the regular season which was also an IBL career high.

Hamilton will open the 99th Intercounty Baseball League season on Saturday May 13th when they travel to Guelph to face the Royals at David Hastings Stadium starting at 2:00 PM.
