CARDINALS COME UP SHORT AGAINST BRANTFORD

Posted on Jul 19, 2017 by Mike Marasco

Hamilton hosted the Brantford Red Sox in IBL action on Tuesday night to make up a rained-out game from earlier in the season. While the Cardinals put ten hits in the game it was Brantford that left with a 6-2 win. For the home side, Jake Sims had a pair of hits including a home run while Nate DeSouza hit a pair of home runs for the Red Sox.

Brantford opened the scoring in the first when Benjamin Bostick, who drew a walk, scored on a Dan Jagdeo groundout to second base. They would then double their lead in the next inning when Nic Burdett led off the inning with a single and later scored when Blake Kauer reached base on an error. Hamilton did cut the lead in half in their second at bats of the game. Connor Bowie hit a one-out single and came around later in the inning to score when Laine Renaud grounded out to first.

However, Brantford extended their lead, scoring for the third consecutive inning. This time on DeSouza’s two-run home run.

Hamilton would get a run back in the fifth when Sims would hit his first career IBL home run.

The Red Sox would go on to add a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings to finish off the scoring in the game.

For the Cardinals, Jackson Jones took the loss going six innings, allowing four runs, one was unearned, on four hits, walking four batters and striking out four. Ben Reid pitched the last three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out one batter.

For Brantford, Graham Tebbit picked up the win going six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, one was unearned, on nine hits, walking three and striking out five. David Hatt relieved Tebbit to finish off the seventh picking up a strikeout to the only batter he faced. Dalton Harvey and Tanner Guindon each would pitch an inning with Harvey allowing a hit and Guindon striking out two batters.

Hamilton will get right back on the field Wednesday night when they host the IBL leading Barrie Baycats who lost their first game of the season on Tuesday. Game time at Bernie Arbour is 7:30 PM. All fans that come out to Wednesday night’s game will enter free of charge.
