
CARDINALS’ CELESTIJN CAPTURES IBL BATTING TITLE
Hamilton Cardinals’ outfielder Dre Celestijn has won the 2016 Intercounty Baseball League Reid Buck Memorial Trophy as the batting champion with a .450 batting average. Celestijn is just the second Cardinal to capture the award with the last being John McTavish in 1968 who had a .420 average.
The 25-year old native of Willemstad, Curacao tied his IBL career high with 49 hits in 109 at bats this season. Of his 49 hits Celestijn had 16 extra base hits including eight doubles, four triples and four home runs, along with 15 walks and only striking out 13 times.
Celestijn and the Cardinals will take on the Kitchener Panthers in the first round of the 2016 IBL playoffs which starts on Thursday August 4th in Kitchener. The first home game of the series for Hamilton will be played on Saturday August 6th at Bernie Arbour Stadium. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
