Zach Hofer, “Zach Makes Tracks”, Named Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy
Central Ontario: Throughout November, more than 50,000 people across North America, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Central Ontario Chapter here in Simcoe County, will celebrate National Philanthropy Day® to pay tribute to the extraordinary achievements that philanthropy—and those involved in the philanthropic process—have made to communities across Canada, the only country to have permanently recognized the day every year.
In addition to celebrations of so many philanthropic efforts in our community, AFP Central Ontario will present its inaugural Youth in Philanthropy Award. Presented with support from TELUS, the 2018 Award will recognize the extraordinary achievements of Barrie youth Zach Hofer (14), who successfully raised over $100,000 to support the Child and Youth Mental Health program at Barrie’s Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. In addition to raising funds Zach also built a community of supporters and much-needed awareness for the importance of taking care of our local youth and their mental well-being.
Zach’s campaign, called “Zach Makes Tracks” started with a goal of $10,000. By the time the campaign ended, Zach had raised $101,000, met the Prime Minister of Canada and galvanized a community of people and businesses who supported his efforts.
Zach’s story is a story of hope for all the youth in our community who struggle with mental health. This message of hope saved lives and is having a lasting impact on how youth, parents, teachers and families talk about what they are doing to support their own mental health.
To celebrate Zach’s selfless contribution, the AFP Central Ontario Chapter and Presenting Sponsor TELUS will host a Philanthropy Day Award ceremony to recognize Zach’s achievements and celebrate the incredibly generous spirit of so many in our community. Details are:
