Campbell Soup Factory development proposal
Hello,
I am writing to you because I wanted to draw attention to a development plan in my area, Mimico. 60 Burmingham Street (South Etobicoke) was the site for the Campbell Soup Factory that closed down 2 years ago. It is right next to a residential neighborhood and to an elementary school, so Mimico resident were happy to see it go. It came my attention that the City of Toronto considers to develop a last-stop-delivery centre at the Campbell site with 3 warehouses and 86 loading bays for heavy-load trucks. When checking for other proposed plans in my area, I noted that an almost identical plan is in place for the adjacent lot, 188 New Toronto Street. Our community is outraged, the trucks would run 24/7 and would pose a significant risk to bikers and school kids. Moreover, the quality of air and the increased noise would have a huge impact on Mimico. There was no public consultation on this matter, and most of my neighbors did not even hear about this redevelopment plan.
My goal is to initiate a conversation between the developers, the City and the residents. I would appreciate if you could contribute to informing our neighborhood about the development plan.
Best regards,
