Why Lunch Alone?

East York Meals on Wheels offers good food and social support to seniors and people living with disabilities. In addition to home meal delivery, East York Meals on Wheels offers a Diners Club program which provides its clients (within the former borough of East York) an opportunity to enjoy a good meal in the company of others at a variety of locations each month.

Currently the Diners Club offers 7 lunch locations monthly and at some locations, entertainment is offered (ie a movie, bingo or guest speaker/performer). It’s a fun afternoon out. Friendly volunteers provide door-to-door transportation - all for one low price. It’s easy… diners may choose to attend a regularly occurring, or occasional social event with people. Although all of our locations can accommodate wheelchairs, our volunteer drivers cannot. We hope that diners will make their own arrangements for transportation.

So what is the cost? Despite its name, Diners Club is not really a club - there are no membership fees and invoices are issued at the end of the month. Payment can be made by cash or cheque or by Visa/MasterCard over the phone. East York Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit agency and a registered charity funded by the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, the City of Toronto, client fees and many generous donors. Client cost is $8.50 to $10.00 per meal depending on location, which includes transportation by our volunteers if needed.
