
East York
East York is a district of the City of Toronto. East York is bordered to the north by North York, to the east by Scarborough, to the south by the East End and to the west by both Midtown and Uptown. East York is located north of Danforth Avenue between the Don River and Victoria Park Avenue. It is a lovely district made up of the ten neighbourhoods of Bermondsey, Crescent Town, East Danforth, Governor's Bridge, Leaside, O'Connor-Parkview, Old East York, Pape Village, Thorncliffe Park and Woodbine Heights.
East York is a district that is known for its diversity. Since the early 1990’s, East York has welcomed its many new residence from South Asia, China, the Philippines, India and Jamaica. In 2001, almost half of the population of East York was born abroad and along with its well established Greek community, East York now has a fairly large Chinese community as well. Due to this rapid influx of immigration, many new ethnic restaurants, shops and stores have been recently opened in East York.
Some of East York’s most famous residents include John Candy, Keifer Sutherland, Stephen Harper and comedian, Colin Mochrie.
