A revitalized district
The former steel town, is shedding its industrious for a more laid back, polished image. Critics argue that the gentrification of downtown Hamilton will do harm to the neighbourhoods steel work past but the boarded up shops and abandoned historic building represent the crumbling facade of a hard working city. With the help of a GO Transit system, government rebates for cleaning up storefronts, condos and tourism, it wasn't long before downtown Hamilton reaped the benefits. Last year the Juno Awards were hosted in the city and the Pan Am Games swept through the city for a short time in the summer. National and international recognition have bolstered downtown Hamilton's revitalized image.
