3rd Annual Wingfest
3rd Annual Wingfest
The Bridge had their 3rd annual Wingfest on Wednesday, July13 at the Spice Factory on Hughson Street North in Hamilton. It was a great event as all who attended will attest. Jack Astor’s Eastgate, Mustangs Bug ole Grill, Mary Brown’s Chicken & Taters, Narula’s, Fool & Flagon, Lone Star Texas Grill, Swiss Chalet Queenston Road, Pizza Bell and the Anchor Bar all donated their wings. The Bread Bar from Locke Street proved their delicious bread and we had veggies from No-Frills Upper Paradise, cookies, tea & coffee to make the evening menu complete.
Live Entertainment was provided by Cory Cruise and Tom McInerny with Mike Nabuurs as the MC made the event most enjoyable. To cap off the event we had many gifts provided to raffle off throughout the evening. Things like an autographed Mike Fisher jersey, 2 Ti-Cat jerseys, a BBQ gift basket, $245 in gift cards made up a gift card tree and a large Wine gift basket made up of 8 bottles of local wine and 3 gift certificates of winery tours and tastings from Niagara Wineries. All of these raffle items were donated for the event. It was a super evening and if you missed it make sure to keep your eyes open for next year’s Wingfest in July 2017.
This event is one of 3 major annual Fundraisers for The Bridge, a charitable organization that helps newly released ex-offenders adjust to life outside the correctional facility. People don’t seem to understand that ex-offenders, generally, are just like you and I who have made a mistake or 2 but want to be good and productive members of society. They need help to do that because in many cases their family won’t help, the friends they had when they went into the facility, shouldn’t be part of their lives after release and with no place to live and no job what are they to do? We help them get proper ID, provide them a temporary place to live, if needed, support for them and their loved ones and more. All this takes money and that’s the reason for fundraisers like this one. Sure we can get some funds though grants but it’s not enough. The grants help with providing much needed programs, like out OT and Education Facilitator to help our clients but the fundraisers keep the doors open with everyday expenses like salaries and utilities.
