When developed Rex Heslop began developing Rexdale in the 50s, it was still farmland.
Banking on the completion of Highway 401 and the creation of jobs at the nearby Toronto International Airport, Heslop believed this would attract a demand for housing in the area.
The former township of Etobicoke commissioned Heslop to further develop an industrial area in Rexdale to ease the rising residential tax rate plaguing the town.
In a span of nearly a decade the region's rapid development led to the creation of more jobs and homes resulting in Heslop completely selling out residential spaces.
Today Rexdale is home to the city's largest industrial sector.
