Davisville Village is titled after John Davis, who immigrated to Canada from Staffordshire, England in 1840.

John Davis was the first Davisville's postmaster and helped found the Davisville Public School. Even today, you can see the two-storey post office building where Mr. Davis used to serve. It is still existing at the corner of Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue.

He also operated the Davis Pottery, originally situated on Davisville Avenue, which became the Village’s largest employer.

The south part of Davisville was separateed in the 1860's on land owned mostly by the Davis family.

The north part of the Village corresponded to the Church. The land was known as the Davisville Glebe, and remained undeveloped until 1911 when it was sold to the Dovercourt Land and Building Company.

Many sole family homes were built between the 1920s-1930s and still exist today. In the 1970s condo towers and apartment buildings began to develop in the neighbourhood and in 2007 the Minto Midtown Quantum towers were completed.
