A Pre-Halloween Night in Disguise Was a Ball for All
On Oct. 14, 2016, over 200 singles and couples from Burlington and surrounding areas attended what just might have been the largest masquerade party in Halton this year! The theme of the event was the love of salsa, ballroom and Latin dance with guests being treated like Venetian royalty with a red carpet affair at the gorgeous Royal Botanical Gardens. Lucille Karakis, the event organizer, proudly gave a spotlight to Halton Women’s Place, whose volunteers collected donations and sold 50/50 tickets.
Event Highlights:
• Over $400 raised for Halton Women’s Place
• Dance lessons led by professional dancer Lucille Karakis
• Dance “chaperons” on hand to dance with attendees and teach some moves
• Dance demonstrations & multiple door prizes
• Various dances including ballroom, salsa, the foxtrot, mambo and more!
Ms. Karakis said that she hopes the event spreads the love of dance into the community. “Everyone had such an amazing time at the event. Around 200 people in and around Burlington joined us!” said Karakis. “We are also thrilled to have supported such an amazing charity such as Halton Women’s Place, who do amazing things for those who need it in our community.”
“We are grateful to Lucille for choosing Halton Women’s Place to support in this event,” said Carm Bozzo, Development Manager of Halton Women’s Place. “Events like these help to spread more awareness about our programs and services.”
Ms. Karakis promises to hold similar events in future for both singles and couples. “I want to continue hosting fun events where local singles can meet in a safe and different environment. I also want to give couples the opportunity to do something that can bring them closer together and help to reignite love and passion. I love what dance can do for people!”
