The Henderson-Kolk Duo

The Henderson-Kolk Guitar Duo performed on Friday November 4th at the Sanderson Center in Brantford. The Duo performed as part of a program run by the Brantford Guitar Society of Brantford, wherein international guitar performers are brought to the main stage for a very minimal cost.

The excitement was enormous as over 50 audience members populated the lobby in the Sanderson center for this performance concert. Henderson and Kolk performed many selections by Bach, Schubert, and repertoire from the modern contemporary composers of today.

The Duo sparkled in unison sound, while also achieving an excellent balance of individual voice leading. The two demonstrated mastery of difficult passage work, while also showing much maturity in their expression in tone.

What I particularly enjoyed was the Duo's pre-performance talk, which engaged the audience by providing a context and ambiance for when the piece of repertoire was composed. Also included in this dialogue was a discussion of the main structural components to the composition, which made their performances more interesting and insightful.
