Hastings County is located on the border of Eastern Ontario and Central Ontario, and is the second-largest county in Ontario. It is known as the “Cheese Capital of Canada.”
Also within Hastings County is the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, although it is independent of the county.
Hastings County can be roughly separated into two areas, as it lies in both the Canadian Shield and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Lowlands geographic regions. In the northern section there is abundant forest, as well as ancient rock formations that are typical of the Canadian Shield. The southern section has rich farmland, and is home to several communities.
