Caledon is a district in the Regional Municipality of Peel in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. In terms of size, Caledon is one of the biggest municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area.
The essential urban centers in this town are: Bolton, Caledon East, Caledon Village, and Mayfield West. Caledon also consists of numerous rural hamlets where time seems to have stood still.
Caledon is best acknowledged for its astonishing landscape and glittering topography. Caledon’s beauty stems from its two leading landforms, the Niagara Escarpment and the Oak Ridges Moraine which assemble in the Caledon Hills to form a landscape that is unique in the Greater Toronto Area.
Downtown Bolton is located in a picture-postcard setting along Regional Road 50, at King Street. Bolton’s heritage streetscape is characterized by its historical commercial buildings and cast-iron street lamps.
The quaint shopping district “Gates of Caledon East” chiseled of the rolling topography of the Oak Ridges Moraine includes attractive gift shops, cafes, restaurants, and convenience type stores.
Caledon’s fabulous topography of hills and dales, woodlots and rivers, can be analyzed through a network of multi-purpose walks that loop through this town.
The Caledon Trailway (which is part of the Trans Canada Trail), is a 36 kilometer trail that leads its way from Palgrave in the northeast part of Caledon, southwest through the picturesque Village of Terra Cotta. Hiking, cycling, crosscountry skiing and horseback riding are popular pursuits along this trail.
