Brampton's history started in the early 1800 when the first settlers arrived here. Brampton takes its name from an English town and it was incorporated as a village in 1852. It wasn't until 1974 however that the City of Brampton was formed by the amalgamation of the former Town of Brampton, the Town of Toronto Gore, Chinguacousy and Mississauga. Formerly known as "The Flower Town of Canada", Brampton first major industry was that of greenhouses. Now, most of Brampton's industry and growth actually lies in the manufacturing sector, the food and beverage sector, the life sciences sector as well as information and communication technologies.
