Big BAM Challenge
On Saturday, August 6th 2016, our first annual Big BAM Challenge was hosted at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex. The theme of this event is aligned with the mission of YouthSpeak: to create a safe space for youth who face challenges related to bullying, addiction, and mental health.
We are very grateful for the event's success. Our amazing volunteers facilitated a wide-range of challenges of varying skill level and interest including JoyRide 150 bike park and the York Region Police obstacle course, as well as zumba, yoga and pound classes, beach volleyball, baseball tournaments and much more.
We were also fortunate to have a variety of local vendors come out in support of our event - from lovely jewellery to free 5 minute massages - it was a huge hit! Cardinal Meats and Metro provided a delicious barbecue for visitors from hamburgers to delicious fruit snacks.
We are so thankful to our sponsors, volunteers, local vendors and the support of the Town of Aurora for making this event possible. We are looking forward to our Big BAM Challenge next year and seeing familiar as well as new faces! All of our proceeds that were collected will support youth leadership training to give a voice to mental health, drug awareness and bullying prevention strategies and provide a message of respect, hope, and tolerance.
