Thriving Toronto Culture

The Annex is a very famous and historic neighbourhood in downtown Toronto that is bounded by Dupont Street to the north, Avenue Road in the east, Bloor Street in the south and Bathurst Street in the west. Bloor Street is the main street that runs through this area and it is a bustling street full of restaurants, shops, cafés and bars.

The Annex neighbours on the University of Toronto and as such, this neighbourhood is home to many students as well as faculty members. There are also many businessmen and businesswomen that live in this area that either work in downtown Toronto or own one of the several independent establishments along Bloor Street. Aside from Bloor Street, the Annex is a primarily residential neighbourhood made up of one-way streets and old Victorian style homes.

Some of the Annex’s most famous landmarks are the Tranzac Club, the Bloor Cinema, the Poor Alex Theatre (now closed) and Trinity-St. Paul's United Church. Two of the Annex’s most notable residents are Timothy Eaton, Margaret Atwood and David Suzuki.
