A model community

Don Mills is a diverse neighborhood in the North York district of Toronto. It is bounded by York Mills Road to the north, Canadian Pacific Railway to the south, Leslie Street to the west, and Don Valley Parkway to the east.
Don Mills was arranged as a model community between 1952 and 1965. One of the five planning principles, which had not been realized in Canada before, was to break down the community into four neighborhood quadrants. Each quadrant was to be enclosing a regional shopping center.
The old shopping center has now been reconstructed into the new Shops at Don Mills where customers can enjoy an outdoor retail experience. The Town Square which features an impressive clock tower, a robotic water feature and an oval ice rink, gourmet food shops and restaurants are also part of the mix.
Bond Park, situated off Duncairn Road, is Don Mills largest park. The area has sports fields and an arena. A path inside Edwards Gardens is part of a nine kilometer paved trail that goes through the valley of the West Don River all the way to Warden Woods Park in Scarborough. Many of Don Mills smaller local parks are linked by a paved walkway that runs behind Don Mills' houses.
